Toronto Hydro Power Outage Today Shuts Line 2 Subway, Leaves Thousands Dark

Around 3, 000 customers remained without power and a 10-station stretch of Line 2 was suspended after a widespread outage hit Toronto’s east side. Saturday at 11: 00 p. m. Toronto Hydro Power Outage Today Cuts Supply to More Than 13, 500 Customers Initially

The outage originally affected over 13, 500 customers when it began just after 8: 00 p. m. ET, and Toronto Hydro said around 3, 000 customers were still without power around 11: 00 p. m. ET. The utility’s email statement said the interruption was caused by “a loss of supply from Hydro One, ” and repair crews were on-site working to restore service.

Line 2 Bloor–Danforth Service Suspended Between Broadview and Kennedy Stations

Subway service was suspended on Line 2 east of the Don Valley, a 10-station stretch from Broadview to Kennedy, with shuttle buses running between those stations. The suspension affected regular transit operations across the east end and required alternative bus service along the corridor while crews addressed the power interruption.

Outage Map Shows Impact Across the Beach, East York, and Scarborough Neighbourhoods

Toronto Hydro’s outage map identified impacted neighbourhoods including the Beach and Upper Beach, parts of East York and the Danforth, Oakridge, Crescent Town, Birchmount Park and Scarborough Junction. Boundaries ran roughly from Greenwood Avenue in the west, along Queen Street East and Danforth Road at the south end, north of Danforth and St. Clair avenues, to past Brimley Road in the east.

Repair crews were confirmed on-site and Toronto Hydro said it was working closely with Hydro One to support restoration efforts. A specific cause beyond the loss of supply was not immediately clear, and crews continued diagnostics and repairs through the night.

Power was expected to be restored to the affected area around 1: 00 a. m. ET Sunday, per the Toronto Hydro alert.
