East Toronto Neighborhoods Lose Power; Toronto Hydro Power Outage Map Details Affected Areas

Thousands of residents and transit riders in the Beach, East York and southwest Scarborough were left without electricity and facing subway suspensions, disrupting commutes and homes. Shortly after 8: 00 p. m. ET, Toronto Hydro issued an alert that the outage resulted from a loss of supply and the Toronto Hydro Power Outage Map showed a large stretch of the east end impacted.

Toronto Hydro Power Outage Map shows shifting customer counts across affected neighbourhoods

The outage initially affected more than 13, 500 customers, with Toronto Hydro’s outage map showing a wide area across the city’s east end; by around 11: 00 p. m. ET the utility reported about 3, 000 customers still without power. Repair crews are on site, and the map indicated work locations as teams responded to restore service to homes and businesses.

Hydro One supply loss triggered outages that hit the Beach, East York and Scarborough

Toronto Hydro said the outage stemmed from a loss of supply from Hydro One. The affected neighbourhoods listed on the outage map include the Beach and Upper Beach, parts of East York and the Danforth, Oakridge, Crescent Town, Birchmount Park and Scarborough Junction. Boundaries run roughly from Greenwood Avenue in the west, along Queen Street East and Danforth Road at the south, north of Danforth and St. Clair avenues, and past Brimley Road in the east.

Line 2 Bloor-Danforth suspended east of the Don Valley between Broadview and Kennedy

The power interruption shut down a 10-station stretch of Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, with service suspended east of the Don Valley from Broadview to Kennedy stations; shuttle buses were put in place to move passengers along the affected segment. The subway suspension added a transit impact on top of the outages in neighbourhoods that lost power shortly after 8: 00 p. m. ET.

, Toronto Hydro said crews were working closely with Hydro One to support restoration efforts and thanked customers for their patience. The utility deferred to Hydro One for additional details about the initial loss of supply while on-site teams performed repairs noted on the outage map.

Service planning was affected across multiple modes: households without electricity faced immediate interruptions to lighting, heating and appliances, while transit riders on Line 2 relied on shuttle buses for a 10-station stretch. Around 3, 000 customers remained in the dark late into the night, a reduction from the original figure above 13, 500 shown on the Toronto Hydro Power Outage Map earlier in the evening.

Repair crews were active in the impacted areas reflected on the outage map, focusing on restoring supply lines and coordinating with Hydro One to re-establish the upstream feed. The outage began shortly after 8: 00 p. m. ET and prompted both utility and transit alerts as teams worked through the night to repair the issue and return service.

Toronto Hydro expects power to be restored to the area around 1: 00 a. m. ET Sunday; if Hydro One restores the lost supply sooner, Toronto Hydro says service could return earlier than the expected time.
