Linda Nosková Advances to Round of 16, Ending Cirstea’s Run at Indian Wells

Sunday at 8: 30 p. m. ET linda nosková delivered a result that tightens the women’s draw and forces upcoming opponents to recalibrate: she edged Sorana Cirstea 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the round of 16 at the BNP Paribas Open.

Linda Nosková’s advancement reshapes the late draw and opponent paths

The 21-year-old Czech, seeded 14th, moves into the tournament’s round of 16, changing matchups for the remaining seeded players and the pathway to the later rounds. This victory marks only the second time this season that she has won at least two consecutive matches in a single draw after the Australian Open, reinforcing a more consistent stretch of results for her in this event.

Sorana Cirstea pushed Nosková into a three-set, 2-hour 25-minute duel

The match lasted two hours and 25 minutes and opened with a high-intensity first set that Cirstea captured in a tiebreak, 7-6. Nosková recovered to take the second set 6-4 and then closed out the decider 6-4, showing the stamina that proved decisive in the late stages of the contest.

Decisive moments: the third-set break and tactical shifts after Dubai

The defining moment came in the sixth game of the final set when Nosková secured a single break at 3-2 and protected that lead through to the finish. The win served as direct revenge for Nosková’s recent 6-1, 6-4 loss to Cirstea in Dubai three weeks earlier, and Nosková’s tactical discipline — including an increase in service percentage and depth in the second set — helped her dictate the final stages.

Still, Cirstea’s momentum entering the match was significant: she had upset Diana Shnaider and Tatjana Maria earlier in the event and used flat groundstrokes to pressure rallies, particularly in the opening set under the California sun. Yet Nosková’s superior physical conditioning allowed her to outlast the world No 38 in a physical baseline battle and turn the match in her favor.

For now, the immediate consequence is Nosková’s progression to face a winner from a key bottom-half clash: she will play the winner of the Coco Gauff–Alexandra Eala match next. If Coco Gauff wins, Nosková would meet Gauff in the round of 16; if Alexandra Eala prevails, Nosková would face Eala in that round.
