The couple met in 2017 while she was filming The Jump. She has said she initially “didn’t fancy” Spencer and felt he “wasn’t for her, ” before their relationship quickly intensified. By January 2018, he proposed during a trip to see The Lion King in London, and they married that June at Glen Affric, the Matthews family estate in Scotland. The kids lean English in their accents but pick up Irish terms at home, calling a cupboard a “press, ” and sometimes leaning into Irish inflections on words like “bath” and “Thursday. ”
