Daytona Beach Weekend Marred By Shootings And Unruly Crowds

Daytona Beach saw a chaotic weekend marked by multiple shootings and large, unruly crowds as law enforcement worked to restore order. Police said there were four shootings since Friday and video shows thousands of people running along the beach while officers from multiple agencies spread out across the sand.

Chaos On The Sand: Video Shows Thousands Fleeing

A video shot from a balcony above the beach at the Ocean Walk Resort captured thousands of people running down the sand while law enforcement from multiple agencies were visible across the beach. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said there were no shootings on the beach and described the situation as chaotic crowds rather than gunfire incidents occurring on the sand itself.

Daytona Beach: Four Shootings, Multiple Locations

Police outlined a sequence of violent incidents across the area. On Friday, a fight at the Joint Bar on Seabreeze involved a shot being fired but no injuries were reported. About an hour later, someone was shot in front of Crunch Fitness. Saturday brought two beachside shootings, including one on Main Street in front of Cruisin Café. Authorities said all of the victims in the shootings are expected to be OK.

Street-Level Disorder and Visitor Concern

Witnesses described the unrest spilling off the sand and into nearby streets and A1A. One visitor, Kissy Derito, said the crowd behavior included twerking, dancing, stopping traffic, cursing and gesturing at others, creating gridlock where vehicles could not move forward or back. Derito also recounted a tourist in an elevator who, seeing the scenes, asked whether they should leave the area during their first visit to Florida.

Police said they are still investigating whether the shootings were connected to spring break or another event. Law enforcement continued efforts to control crowds and piece together what led to the weekend’s multiple incidents.
