Sens add Warren Foegele, tweaking roster ahead of final road games

Ottawa’s depth forwards will see immediate lineup shifts as sens add a physical winger, changing fourth-line minutes and matchup plans for the rest of the road trip. Saturday at 10: 00 p. m. ET, Warren Foegele is set to make his Senators debut in Seattle after being acquired Thursday evening.

Warren Foegele’s role with the Senators’ fourth line

Foegele, 29, arrives as a depth option who brings playoff experience to Ottawa’s forward group; he has 86 career playoff games, the third-most on the current roster behind Claude Giroux and Lars Eller. That experience is expected to factor into how the coaching staff allocates minutes among bottom-six forwards and special teams support during the remaining regular-season stretch.

Foegele skated with Lars Eller and Fabian Zetterlund in Seattle morning skate

On Saturday morning in Seattle, Foegele skated on the fourth line alongside Lars Eller and Fabian Zetterlund, signaling an immediate role in the lineup mix for the visit to the Kraken. Jordan Spence said he and Foegele became good friends in Los Angeles and described Foegele as a forward who pays close attention to both ends of the ice.

Foegele said he aims to use his speed and play north-south while being reliable across the ice, and coach Travis Green told him to keep things simple and not overthink his first game with the team; Green noted Foegele’s direct style and playoff experience when describing what he expects from the winger.

Sens roster status under Staios after tweaks at the deadline

Team leadership signaled a steady approach: Staios banks on the current Senators roster and made only limited tweaks before the trade deadline, leaving the core group largely intact as Ottawa rides its best recent stretch. The Senators have been on a 10-game run that has produced a 7-1-2 record (16 points) since Jan. 25, the team’s strongest 10-game stretch this season.

For scheduling, Ottawa’s two remaining games on this road trip — at Seattle and Vancouver — will be the team’s final contests outside the Eastern Time Zone this season. Starting with the March 11 contest at home against the Montreal Canadiens, the final 19 games of the season will all take place in the Eastern Time Zone, a shift that will affect travel and recovery planning for the roster.

Meanwhile, Tim Stützle brings momentum into the next slate, riding an 11-game point streak that dates back to Jan. 24 and includes seven goals and eight assists for 15 points during this run; earlier this season he also had a 13-game point streak, and when he picked up his first assist in Edmonton he joined Daniel Alfredsson and Jason Spezza as the only players in franchise history with multiple 10-game point streaks in the same season.

If Staios approves any further trades before the trade deadline, the Senators’ roster composition would change accordingly.
