A single-vehicle accident autoroute 20 on the South Shore of Montreal left a teenage passenger in critical condition after the car struck a lamppost and came to rest on the highway median. Emergency services were called around 11: 00 am ET on Sunday to the scene near kilometre 105 at Saint-Mathieu-de-Belœil.

Accident Autoroute 20: Injuries and Immediate Response

The vehicle, described as an SUV, lost control near kilometre 105 and collided with a lamppost before stopping on the central median. Three occupants were inside: a woman and two adolescents. All three were transported to hospital. One of the adolescents sustained serious injuries that put her life in danger; she did not appear to be wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The other two occupants suffered minor injuries and are not in danger.

Crash Details and Road Impact

Authorities noted the crash involved only the single vehicle, with no other cars implicated. A section of Autoroute 20 westbound was closed for an indeterminate period in the area of the montée Saint-Jean-Baptiste to allow investigators to examine the scene. A detour lane was established to permit reconstruction teams to carry out their work while traffic was rerouted around the closure.

Investigation Underway and What Comes Next

The Sûreté du Québec is managing the scene and the ongoing reconstruction work to determine the circumstances that led to the SUV leaving the roadway and striking the lamp post. Officials have not released further details about the occupants’ identities or the hospital locations. Travel disruptions on the westbound lanes remain in effect while investigators complete their on-site work and clear the crash area.

The situation remains under active review and updates will follow as investigators release additional findings about the cause of the collision and the condition of those injured in the accident autoroute 20.
