Kamloops Weather Shifts as High Winds Trigger Outages Across B.C. and Alberta

Residents and online users checking kamloops weather should expect wind-warning notices and utility outage alerts that could disrupt travel and power. Monday at 9: 00 am ET Environment Canada issued wind warnings for much of Alberta and southern Saskatchewan and posted special weather statements for southeastern British Columbia, prompting outages and safety advisories.
Kamloops Weather: BC Hydro Outages in Southern Interior Signal Disruptions
BC Hydro says about 1, 900 customers are without lights in the Southern Interior, with roughly half of those customers in Vernon. For now, BC Hydro is aiming to have lights back on by later Sunday; crews are working to clear trees and branches that brought down power lines. Those checking kamloops weather feeds may see outage maps tied to the Southern Interior listings as utilities update restoration times.
Environment Canada Wind Warnings Raise Risk Across Alberta and Saskatchewan
Environment Canada issued warnings covering most areas from the Alberta-U. S. boundary to Fort McMurray and southwestern Saskatchewan, with wind speeds forecast between 90 and 110 km/h before they ease off on Sunday evening. A special weather statement is in effect for southeastern British Columbia and a stronger warning covers the Fraser Valley, where gusts could reach 90 km/h. The agency warns that high-sided vehicles could be pushed around and that roofs, fences, trees and soft shelters may suffer damage.
Fortis Alberta and Epcor Report Thousands Without Power as Winds Top 110 km/h
Fortis Alberta said that a fast-moving winter storm has left multiple power outages across the province, with an estimated 8, 000 residents without power; the company reminded residents to stay at least 10 metres away from downed power lines and avoid damaged electrical equipment. ATCO shows some outages in northwestern Alberta, and Epcor reported power outages in Edmonton as winds produced widespread infrastructure damage. In southern Alberta, the system may bring snow accumulations up to 20 cm in places including Calgary, Banff, Strathmore, Waterton Lakes and Vulcan before tapering off Sunday night.
Still, BC Hydro notes most outages in the Southern Interior are caused by trees and branches contacting power lines, and utility crews are prioritizing hazard removal to restore service. That said, the combination of high winds and heavy snow in nearby Alberta has compounded the strain on transmission and distribution infrastructure, stretching repair timelines for some communities.
Winds are expected to ease off on Sunday evening; if winds subside by Sunday at 9: 00 pm ET, BC Hydro aims to restore most Southern Interior power by later Sunday. If the gusts persist, restoration timelines will lengthen and additional outages could appear as crews respond to new damage.
