49ers To Sign Christian Kirk To 1-Year, $6M Deal After Career-Worst Season

The San Francisco 49ers are set to sign free agent christian kirk to a one-year, $6 million deal, NFL insider Jordan Schultz said, adding yet another veteran target to a receiver room that already landed Mike Evans.

Christian Kirk’s 2025 Slide And Playoff Upside

Christian Kirk, 29, is coming off what has been described as the worst season of his eight-year NFL career. Playing 13 regular-season games for the Houston Texans, he was targeted 52 times and finished with 28 catches for 239 yards and one touchdown, an 8. 5 yards-per-reception mark that represents the lowest of his career.

That regular-season drop contrasted with a brief postseason resurgence. In two playoff games for Houston, Kirk caught 10 of 15 targets for 164 yards and two touchdowns, including an eight-reception, 144-yard effort with a score in a wild-card win.

Earlier in his career, Kirk had shown higher production: a 2022 season that included 84 receptions for 1, 108 yards and eight touchdowns, a peak referenced in evaluations of his overall upside heading into the 2026 campaign.

How The Signing Reshapes The 49ers’ Receiver Room

The one-year deal for Christian Kirk follows the 49ers’ earlier signing of Mike Evans and creates a new top tier of pass-catching options alongside Ricky Pearsall. Team depth now lists veteran targets such as Demarcus Robinson and Jacob Cowing behind the new-look starters, with additional depth names that have been mentioned in roster discussions.

The addition comes as Brandon Aiyuk is expected to be released, and the team has already parted ways with or allowed other wideouts from last season to leave. With Kirk and Evans signed, the 49ers’ front office still faces decisions about further additions; finding another higher-upside receiver in the 2026 NFL draft is a possibility that has been raised as the roster continues to take shape.

For Kirk, the one-year, $6 million deal represents a chance to re-establish the production that once made him a top target, while the 49ers gain veteran depth and playoff-tested playmaking as they aim to contend in a competitive division.
