Airpods Max 2 Announced by Apple in Cupertino, Bringing Stronger ANC and New Intelligent Features

Apple has unveiled airpods max 2, a new generation of its over-ear headphones built around the H2 chip with stronger noise cancellation, upgraded sound, and a slate of intelligent features. Orders open March 25, with availability beginning early next month in five finishes.

What’s New in Airpods Max 2

At the core of the update is Apple’s H2 chip, which enables Active Noise Cancellation that is up to 1. 5x more effective than the previous model. New computational audio algorithms enhance both ANC and Transparency, aiming to better suppress aircraft and commuter noise while keeping environmental awareness sounding more natural when needed.

Audio hardware has been refined with a new high dynamic range amplifier designed to deliver cleaner output while maintaining the established sound signature. Spatial Audio content also gets tuning improvements, with more precise instrument placement, tighter and more consistent bass, and more natural mids and highs.

Apple is extending features previously found on its latest earbuds to the over-ear line. Adaptive Audio adjusts noise control on the fly based on surroundings. Conversation Awareness lowers audio and enhances voices when you start speaking. Voice Isolation prioritizes speech for clearer calls, and Live Translation brings real-time conversation translation to the headphones.

Latency reductions over wireless benefit mobile and Mac gaming, and a dedicated Game Mode is supported across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. Apple is also bringing convenience touches to the headset, such as the ability to trigger an iPhone camera shutter with the Digital Crown.

Pricing, Colors and Availability

The new model goes on sale in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue. Apple will open orders on March 25, with units set to reach customers early next month. Pricing is set at $549 in the U. S., £499 in the U. K., and AU$999 in Australia.

From a hardware design standpoint, the sequel largely follows the original’s formula, retaining the premium over-ear aesthetic and control approach. The weight remains 386. 2g, and the Digital Crown continues as the primary interface. The included case places the headphones into an ultra-low-power state, though it offers limited physical protection.

Design, Sustainability and Pro-Grade Audio

Apple is emphasizing sustainability with this release. The headphones use 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in all magnets, 100 percent recycled polyester in the ear cushions, and recycled gold plating and tin solder across Apple-designed circuit boards. Packaging is 100 percent fiber-based and designed for easy recycling.

For creators, the technical upgrades extend beyond wireless playback. Using the included USB‑C cable, the headphones support 24‑bit, 48 kHz lossless audio across music, movies, and games. Apple says this combination of lossless and ultra‑low latency enables professional workflows in apps like Logic Pro. When connected over USB‑C, the company also positions the headset as the only pair that lets musicians both create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking.

Studio-friendly features broaden the use cases: airpods max 2 add studio‑quality audio recording and a camera remote function, expanding their appeal for podcasters, musicians, and content creators who want to handle capture and monitoring on the same device.

The overall package signals Apple’s push to tie its over-ear line more tightly to its latest audio platform. With stronger noise cancellation, upgraded processing, and lossless USB‑C support, airpods max 2 aim to serve commuters, gamers, and creative professionals in one set of headphones, while keeping the familiar fit and finish that defined the first generation.
