Maple Leafs Re-sign Artur Akhtyamov to a Three-Year Contract Extension

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that they have re-signed goaltender Artur Akhtyamov to a three-year contract extension that will run through the 2028-29 season. The deal is structured as a two-way contract for the 2026-27 season and one-way contracts for 2027-28 and 2028-29, with an average annual value of $900, 000.
Artur Akhtyamov’s Contract Structure and Financial Terms
The three-year extension pays an average of $900, 000 per season, a total value that equates to $2. 7 million over the life of the deal. The first year is a two-way contract, allowing for movement between the NHL and AHL levels, while the final two seasons are one-way agreements. The structure signals the club’s intent to keep Akhtyamov on the NHL roster depth chart for the latter portion of the contract while retaining roster flexibility in the immediate season following the signing.
Performance and Development With the Toronto Marlies
Akhtyamov, 24, has been a key performer for the Toronto Marlies this season, posting an 18-10-4 record in 32 games with a 2. 86 goals-against average and a. 904 save percentage. He has been particularly strong at home, going 11-2-2 with a 2. 51 goals-against average and a. 917 save percentage, and he has not suffered a regulation loss at Coca-Cola Coliseum since Nov. 26, an 8-0-1 stretch at that venue. Across his AHL career with the Marlies, Akhtyamov has logged a 29-18-8 record, a 2. 84 goals-against average, a. 903 save percentage and four shutouts in 58 regular-season games.
NHL Debut and Career Snapshot
Artur Akhtyamov made his NHL debut for the Maple Leafs in relief on Dec. 13, stepping in and stopping all five shots he faced during his appearance. A fourth-round pick by Toronto in the 2020 NHL Draft (106th overall), he has spent time developing in Russia’s professional leagues before joining the organization’s AHL ranks. The club also recently selected him to represent Toronto with the North Division at the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic, underscoring his standing among the team’s prospects.
The extension locks in goaltending depth for the Maple Leafs through the 2028-29 season and formalizes a path for Akhtyamov that blends continued AHL development with the possibility of increased NHL opportunities in the final two one-way seasons of his new contract.
