Salman Ali Agha: What Unfolded On The Field

The incident occurred in the 39th over when the Bangladesh captain obtained the ball after a clash between the striker and non-striker ends. Out of his ground, salman ali agha tried to pick up the ball to return it, but the opposition captain reached it first and broke the stumps. The on-field umpire referred the call to the third umpire, who gave Agha out for 64.

After being given out for 64 from 62 balls, Agha threw his helmet and batting gloves to the ground and gestured angrily as he walked off. The reaction was judged to be an inappropriate use of equipment and fittings during the international match.

Disciplinary Outcome and Code Breach

Agha admitted a breach of Article 2. 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment, clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings. He accepted the sanction proposed by Neeyamur Rashid Rahul of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so no formal hearing was required.

The official penalty was an immediate reprimand and the addition of one demerit point to Agha’s disciplinary record; the record had been clear with no offences over the previous 24 months. He escaped a financial penalty, which could have been as high as 50% of a player’s match fee under Level 1 provisions. On-field umpires Adrian Holdstock and Tanvir Ahmed, third umpire Kumar Dharmasena and fourth umpire Masudur Rahman Mukul levelled the charge.

Match Context and Series Implications

At the time of his dismissal, Agha and Mohammad Rizwan had put on 109 for the fourth wicket after Pakistan had slipped to 122-3. Rizwan was dismissed for 44 two balls later as Pakistan made 274. Bangladesh were then bowled out for 114 and Pakistan won by 128 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, leveling the three-match series at 1-1.

With the series tied, the teams are scheduled to meet in a decider on Sunday. The reprimand and demerit point close the disciplinary matter for now, while the game’s result sets up a decisive final match to settle the series.
