Supporters and rivals confront schedule strain as Bodo Glimt juggle Europe

Ole Kristian Sandvik, the chairman of a national supporters group, has warned that last-minute changes are leaving fans out of pocket as Bodo Glimt pursue a rare Champions League run. The club now prepares for a last-16 tie while Norwegian league fixtures have been pushed back, and fans say the uncertainty is making travel and accommodation planning difficult.
Ole Kristian Sandvik and postponed domestic fixtures of bodo glimt
Sandvik highlighted that when a match scheduled for a Saturday at 3 p. m. is moved, flights and hotels already booked by supporters can become wasted expenses. The club’s two opening domestic fixtures, against Sarpsborg 08 and HamKam, were postponed with no new dates set, leaving supporters to rearrange plans without clear timelines.
He argued that clubs playing in Europe should be able to cope with a heavier match load and that wholesale postponements once the league phase is underway cause major practical problems for travelling fans. Sandvik said it is very simple to play two matches a week instead of postponing games, and he warned that repeated changes create an uneven league table when teams have played different numbers of matches deep into the season.
Bodo Glimt’s Champions League progress and the Sporting challenge
On the field, bodo glimt have been celebrated for a string of results that carried them into the Champions League last 16. The club reached the knockout round after beating last season’s runners-up Inter Milan 5-2 on aggregate in the playoffs and recorded wins over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid during the group phase.
Forward Jens Petter Hauge has been a significant part of that run, with six goals in 10 Champions League matches. Bodo Glimt will host Sporting in the first leg on 11 Mar 2026 at 4: 00 pm ET, with the return fixture scheduled for the following Tuesday; that fixture list is the specific reason several domestic matches were deferred.
Zlatko Tripic, Viking and the debate over league scheduling
Zlatko Tripic, who captained Viking to the league title ahead of Glimt last season, said, “It has become a bit much. ” He acknowledged the difficulty of balancing domestic and European commitments but warned against giving priority to one club, saying extreme consideration for Glimt can create confusion in the schedule.
Tripic suggested the league could consider an earlier start in March to avoid congestion later in the campaign. He framed the debate as one about fairness to all clubs in Norway: moving weekend fixtures to accommodate a single team, he said, risks creating competitive imbalances and logistical headaches for opponents and supporters alike.
Supporters have also voiced frustration with the timing of changes. Sandvik emphasised that some accommodation for clubs in Europe is acceptable, but repeated postponements once the domestic season is under way undermine supporters’ ability to plan and impose extra costs on those travelling to away matches.
For now, the confirmed next milestone is clear: Bodo Glimt will play Sporting in the Champions League last 16 first leg on 11 Mar 2026 at 4: 00 pm ET, with the return fixture the following Tuesday. Sandvik’s concerns about travel and fixture congestion will remain immediate realities for supporters and rival clubs as that European schedule unfolds.
