Japan’s 11-0 Rout Leaves India Reeling in Afc Asian Cup Group

India’s chances of advancing have been all but extinguished after a humiliating defeat that widened their goal deficit and handed Japan an unbeatable group position; Saturday at 9: 00 p. m. ET Japan’s 11-0 win in the Afc Asian Cup left India staring at a dramatic uphill task to stay alive.

India left scrambling after Japan’s 11-0 victory

India absorbed the full force of Japan’s attack and now face a steep recovery: the loss left India’s goal difference at -13 and Japan with an unsurpassable +13 after two matches. That swing puts immediate pressure on India to produce a markedly different performance in their remaining group fixture to retain any realistic hope of advancing.

Japan’s scoring barrage in the Afc Asian Cup featured multiple hat-tricks

Japan’s 11 goals included hat-tricks from Hinata Miyazawa and Riko Ueki, a brace from Kiko Seike, and single goals from Yuzuki Yamamoto, Yui Hasegawa and Maya Hijikata. Ueki entered as a second-half substitute and still finished with three goals, while Miyazawa completed her treble across the match.

Match control shown in possession, shots and passing left India exposed

Japan dominated the statistical ledger: 35 shots to India’s zero, with 16 of those Japan attempts on target. Japan kept 80% possession, completed 613 passes to India’s 161, and forced 65% of the action into India’s defensive third while Japan’s own defensive third saw only 3. 6% of the play.

Yamamoto set the tone with the opening goal in the fourth minute when she cut in and curled a shot into the top corner, and Hasegawa followed to make it two. Miyazawa added goals after incisive set-ups, and Seike converted a penalty on the stroke of first-half injury time to make it five at the break. Nils Nielsen made three changes at halftime; within the first minute of the second half Hijikata’s cross was flicked in by substitute Ueki, and Ueki went on to add two more quick goals. Seike, Hijikata and Miyazawa contributed further strikes as Japan completed the 11-0 scoreline.

Japan’s commanding performance came after a narrower 2-0 win in their opener, and the margin here underscored the gulf between the two sides on the night. Japan’s victory ensures they sit atop Group C with six points from two games, while Chinese Taipei and Vietnam sit level behind them on three points each on head-to-head tiebreakers.

For India, the route back into contention now hinges on a markedly improved showing against Chinese Taipei; their goal difference and the scale of this defeat mean only a strong result in the next match would leave any hope of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.

If India beats Chinese Taipei next Tuesday, they would retain a chance to progress as one of the best third-placed finishers.
