Fire Perth: Arson Squad Probes Midvale Molotov Attack and Waikiki Midnight Blaze

The Arson Squad is investigating two separate house fires in the Perth area, including a deliberate Molotov cocktail attack in Midvale and a late-night blaze that extensively damaged a home in Waikiki. Fire Perth investigations remain active while police seek public assistance and evidence.
Fire Perth: Two Separate Investigations Underway
Arson squad detectives are continuing inquiries into the Midvale house fire and the Waikiki property blaze. In Midvale, emergency services were called to a Wellarton Street home about 2: 00 am ET on August 9, 2025. In Waikiki, crews responded to a property on Burnside Way just before 12: 00 am ET on Friday, March 13. Both incidents are the subject of ongoing investigations and have drawn focused attention from specialist investigators.
Midvale Molotov Cocktail Attack: CCTV Shows Suspects, Child Treated
WA Police have released CCTV footage of the Midvale incident that investigators say shows a group of five people loitering outside the property before one person throws what appears to be a Molotov cocktail through a bedroom window. A woman and three children were sleeping in the room at the time. One child sustained minor burns and received medical treatment. The group was last seen running down Wellarton Street.
Detectives are urging anyone with information or footage related to the house fire to contact Crime Stoppers by phoning 1800 333 000 or to make a report online. Rewards of up to $25, 000 are available for information that leads to the identification and conviction of an arsonist.
Waikiki Midnight Blaze and Local Policing Updates
Emergency services spent more than an hour bringing the Waikiki house fire under control after arriving at the Burnside Way property. The blaze caused extensive damage to the home and the cause remains under investigation. The Arson Squad continues to examine the scene as part of that inquiry.
Other recent local policing and community updates referenced alongside the Waikiki investigation include a Safety Bay man charged after an alleged car theft in Mandurah that ended with a police pursuit to the south west; the rescue of one of Mandurah’s oldest dolphins and her calf after becoming stranded; the suspension of five students at Baldivis Secondary College following footage of a relief teacher being taunted; a hunt for a missing 47-year-old man in Rockingham; and charges laid in an alleged glass slashing incident in Madora Bay. Upgrades to disability accommodation and social housing in Rockingham were also noted following a State Government grant, and public consultation opened on proposed changes to blue swimmer crab rules in the West Coast bioregion including Mandurah.
The Arson Squad’s continued work follows the release of evidence in the Midvale case and the containment of the Waikiki fire. Investigations remain active, and authorities are seeking community help to identify suspects and establish causes where deliberate ignition is suspected.
