April 2026 General Conference in Salt Lake City Over Easter Weekend 2026 Sparks Solemn Assembly to Sustain New Church Presidency

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will convene its 196th Annual General Conference with four general sessions and a solemn assembly coinciding with Easter Weekend 2026. The sessions are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, April 4–5, in the Conference Center in Salt Lake City and will emphasize the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter Weekend 2026: Schedule, Sessions and Solemn Assembly

The conference format will include four general sessions across the weekend and a solemn assembly in the Saturday morning session to sustain a new Church President and First Presidency. The announced schedule removes the traditional Saturday evening session following a November 2025 decision on conference timing, and organizers have noted the Saturday solemn assembly will not include the Hosanna Shout.

Information on the April 2026 general conference was published Friday, March 13. The general sessions are intended for all individuals, families and friends of the Church.

Leadership Transition: First Presidency To Be Sustained

The solemn assembly follows a leadership succession announced in the months prior: the death of the previous Church President on Sept. 27, 2025, and the naming of a new President on Oct. 14, 2025, with two counselors appointed to form the First Presidency. The April assembly will mark the first formal sustaining of that new First Presidency in a solemn assembly setting, a special meeting held for holy purposes that can include dedications and other elevated commemorations.

Themes, Public Invitations and Access to Conference Messages

Messages during the weekend will offer focused instruction and reflection on the life, ministry, Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, with remarks on Easter Sunday expected to highlight the literal Resurrection and the hope and renewal that flow from it. Members are being invited to both a Palm Sunday worship service the week before and to watch the general conference the following weekend.

The conference will be streamed and broadcast in more than 70 languages for gatherings large and small, and conference addresses will be made available soon after the sessions in text, audio and video in more than 90 languages through multiple channels. Weekly Sunday worship services normally held in meetinghouses will not take place when general conferences occur.

Those wishing to attend in person who live in the United States and Canada should request tickets from their local ward or branch leaders.

As scheduled, the April 2026 meeting will bring together the Church’s leadership transition and Easter observance in a single weekend, underscoring the denomination’s emphasis on the Resurrection and the new presidency’s first formal sustaining in a solemn assembly setting. Further details about individual session topics and message summaries are expected to be released around the conference and made available for study afterward.
