Petronas Hosts OTC Asia 2026 as CCS and LCO2 Plans Move Into Build Phase

March 8 at 9: 00 a. m. ET — petronas will host the Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTC Asia) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur from March 31 to April 2, and the timing matters because the company is moving carbon capture and shipping plans from study to execution now.

In 2020, Petronas declared its aspiration to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, framing an Energy Transition Strategy built on three pillars: strengthening upstream and gas with lower emissions intensity; broadening into renewables and hydrogen; and advancing decarbonization technologies including carbon capture and storage.

Petronas’ OTC Asia 2026 hosting and Ir Yusri’s program leadership

Petronas will once again host OTC Asia 2026 in Kuala Lumpur from March 31 to April 2, and Ir Ts Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof is chair of the program committee. Ir Yusri serves as senior vice president of projects and technology for Petronas and leads strategic technology initiatives, including shaping the company’s digital direction.

Petronas CCS milestones: 11 agreements, 2029 Pahang injection target, and June 2025 LCO2 JV

petronas CCS is entering a build phase: the company signed 11 agreements in 2024 and has set the Southern CCS hub Pahang for first CO2 injection in 2029. The program includes a planned June 2025 joint venture to develop LCO2 carriers that would transport captured CO2 as a liquid from terminals to storage.

Those steps are presented as part of a sequence from studies to execution. The June 2025 JV signing is highlighted as a key commercial milestone that would make shipping an integral part of the storage strategy, linking capture projects without nearby reservoirs to the Southern CCS hub Pahang.

ptc Asia 2026 in Kuala Lumpur and regional pipeline coordination

The Pipeline Technology Conference Asia, ptc Asia, will return to Kuala Lumpur from November 24–26, 2026, and Petronas is chairing the event’s advisory committee. ptc Asia combines training courses, a technical conference, and an exhibition designed to align operators, EPCs, technology providers, regulators, and researchers across the region.

Organizers intend both OTC Asia 2026 and ptc Asia 2026 to steer dialogue on safe LCO2 handling, pipeline specifications, and standards that would support cross-border transport and storage. The ptc Asia advisory committee includes industry groups and service providers that will review abstracts and shape technical programming.

Responses inside Petronas emphasize commercial discipline, technology leadership, and adaptability; Ir Yusri described resilience as anchored in disciplined capital allocation and strategic partnerships across governments, technology providers, academia, and industry peers, a point made in an exclusive interview for the program.

Next confirmed milestones: the June 2025 joint venture signing to develop LCO2 carriers and OTC Asia 2026 opening in Kuala Lumpur on March 31, 2026. If the June 2025 JV is finalized, ship design approvals and terminal FEED awards are expected to follow as the program moves from planning toward execution.
