Evening Commuters Lose Core DART Link as Irish Rail Repairs Overhead Damage

Commuters on Dublin’s coastal corridor will see cancellations and crowded alternatives through this evening, with the central DART link shut between Pearse and Dun Laoghaire. As of Monday at 4: 18 p. m. ET, Iarnród Éireann said irish rail services remain suspended on that stretch while crews tackle extensive overhead line damage.
Pearse–Dun Laoghaire Service Halted During Evening Peak
All train services are suspended between Pearse and Dun Laoghaire “until further notice” following what the operator described as significant damage to overhead line equipment. Disruption is expected to persist for an extended period and will include this evening’s peak service, affecting thousands who rely on the coastal spine.
The shutdown removes a key segment linking the city center and the southside, forcing riders to seek other options while repairs continue. That means irish rail passengers between these stations currently have no trains available while the suspension remains in place.
Irish Rail Points to Grand Canal Dock Power Fault
Iarnród Éireann said DART services could be disrupted for the rest of the day due to a power issue with overhead lines at Grand Canal Dock. The problem has left trains without the electricity they need to operate safely across the affected section, prompting the wider suspension through Pearse and Dun Laoghaire.
The operator signaled that work to fix the fault is underway and warned that the disruption window may extend, reiterating that repairs are ongoing and could impact journeys beyond the evening rush. With a power issue at Grand Canal Dock and damage to overhead equipment, the rail corridor remains constrained until crews complete fixes.
M50 Blanchardstown and N11 See Heavy Traffic, Separate Collisions Cleared
Roads around the capital are busy, with multiple reports of heavy conditions across major routes. Northbound on the M50, delays stretch from J13 to J6, while southbound traffic is slow from the M1/M50 roundabout to J6. Elsewhere, the N11 is heavy, and city-center routes are congested.
- Malahide Road, Swords Road, Drumcondra Road, Phibsborough Road, North Circular Road, and Cabra face delays on the northside.
- Chapelizod Bypass, Longmile Road, the N11, Merrion Gates, and Patrick Street, Bride Road, and Bride Street are heavy on the southside.
- A breakdown sits on St. Johns Road West, left lane, around 40 meters before the turn for South Circular Road.
- Another breakdown is on the M4 westbound past J5 Leixlip in the hard shoulder.
Several earlier collisions were cleared on the N11 southbound and both directions of the M50, but a separate crash on the M50 northbound at J6 Blanchardstown initially blocked lanes 2 and 3 before narrowing to lane 3. Even as lanes reopened, knock-on delays have lingered across the corridor.
City traffic is also heavy around Merrion Gates and the southside core, while northside approaches through Drumcondra and Phibsborough remain slow. With the DART suspension removing capacity between Pearse and Dun Laoghaire, commuters are facing pressure across multiple corridors at the same time.
As of 4: 18 p. m. ET, Iarnród Éireann had not given a restoration time for trains through the damaged section. The operator has warned the disruption will cover the evening peak. If repairs to the overhead lines conclude faster than expected, the Pearse–Dun Laoghaire segment would reopen before the end of the day; otherwise, travelers should prepare for continued evening impacts.
